Video file download errors / issues

Hi Max!
I'm not sure if this is a problem on gofile's side (the file host) or Drama-Otaku but seems like there has been an issue recently with the video download for at least a few episodes that we know of.
I'll try and explain it the best I can as I don't know if it's happening often and with how many other files.
We have video files on the site that were fine initially but for some reason have started throwing up errors upon initiating download.
For example, this has been happening to a few in particular that I've noticed: Ichijigen no Sashiki ep8, and Kaze Kaoru eps 8 and 107 (there may be more but I haven't checked site-wide.)
We noticed that it doesn't display the preview when the file is not working, so not sure if it's a corruption with the upload or something. However, upon reupload it still had the same error. It only worked when it was added into a zip file.
I've sent screenshots of the error that occurs when clicking the download from the download tab, as well as how it displays in the gofile site without the video preview. It has the same error when clicking through to download the video on the gofile link itself too weirdly.
If you have any questions feel free to ask as I don't know if I explained this very well lol!
I didn't know if this was something possible to look into to see if it's something on our end or on gofile's end (or the actual files?)

Max Romanchenko A bug that's been happening for you to look into - I hope I explained well enough! Feel free to ask me anything if it doesn't make sense!
It's most likely a problem on gofile's side we think, but you're welcome to check in case there's any issues our end!

Cat Hi Cat,
Thanks for the detailed report and the screenshots, they helped a lot. I'm on it.
Two separate things are going on.
First, gofile itself. Files that aren't downloaded for a while get moved to
their cold storage servers, and those servers keep going down. That's why the thumbnail disappears, why you get the same error on gofile's own page, and why the zip worked. A zip is new content, so it landed on a healthy server. Nothing we can do on the site for this one, it's on their side.
Second, and this is the real bug. Some files were uploaded from an account other than the DO one. For those, gofile won't show us our own download links, so the site creates a new one every time somebody opens or plays the file. There's a cap of 100 links per file, and once a file hits it, downloads and streaming stop working completely. That cap has always been there, the files just took months to reach it, which is why this looks sudden.
I'm running a check across the whole catalogue right now to see how many files are affected. Once I have the numbers I'll come back with a fix and with what we should do about uploads from outside the DO account.

Cat Hi Cat,
A quick correction to what I wrote yesterday. I dug deeper and your case turned
out to be simpler than I thought. The link limit I mentioned affects other files,
not yours. Ichijigen sits in our own folder and the only thing wrong with it was
gofile having its storage server down at that moment.
I've made a few changes on our side. The site now checks whether the storage
server is actually up before it hands you a download link. If it's down you'll
get a message saying so instead of the browser error you were seeing. Same for the video player. Could you please try the episodes that were failing and let me know how they behave now?
One more thing. You can delete the zip you made for Ichijigen E08 and keep just
the mp4. The zip works, but people will end up downloading a 2 GB archive instead of the video, and the original file should be fine now.

Max Romanchenko Thanks for investigating Max! I've deleted the zip file, I had to upload it for the fansubber to work on it.
The issue seems to have been fixed. Were people's PB quotas affected from this?
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Hi Duong,
Yes, they were. The log entry was written before the browser actually followed the link, so a failed attempt on a 2 GB file still counted as 2 GB. Repeated clicks within an hour only counted once, and with the daily reset nothing was lost beyond that day.
Fixed now. When the storage server is down the site stops before writing
anything, so a failed download costs nothing.
If anyone did hit their limit on one of those days, send me the names and I'll add the gigabytes back.

Max Romanchenko Thanks Max, sorry for late reply, life has been hectic lol. It seems ep 8 is downloading fine now! Thanks for investigating into this. Hopefully the error message for when the server is down will help people understand whether there's an issue. I didn't realize that the episodes go into cold storage if they've not been downloaded for a while - we have a premium account so I assumed that wouldn't happen, but i guess it's a gofile thing.
In regards to the other thing you said about the files uploaded from another account than DO, I didn't quite follow what you meant by that. Is this because we have streaming set up on the site so it reaches a limit after a number of downloads?

Max Romanchenko Oh, one of our users reached out regarding an issue they were having which I think is somewhat related:
I'll send you what they wrote to us lol:
"I don't know if this is just me, but when I attempted to download pirate booty via the subtitle project page, it keep saying "not premium" (a page of "not premium" just appeared after I click the booty), and this isn't just an one off incident.
The quota is also deducted, because the link is detected - in this case I don't really mind for that (despite the download doesn't go through).
Pirate booty downloads on the drama title works in my case though, it is only the subtitle project page that keeps giving me such issue. "
Max Romanchenko
Cat Hi Cat, Duong,
Glad E08 is working. Cold storage is a gofile thing, by the way, premium doesn't opt you out of it.
The not-premium report is connected to what I mentioned earlier. Some links point at folders in other people's gofile accounts, usually fansubbers using their own.
For those files gofile creates a direct link but then refuses to serve it, because it checks premium on the file's owner rather than on us. The user sees "not premium", and the quota still gets counted because a link was issued. Drama pages are fine since those files are ours.
It affects 33 folders out of about 2000, almost all hardsub releases on subtitle projects, roughly 108 GB. Some of them have stopped working entirely, because every failed attempt also burns one of the 100 links a file is allowed.
Duong, what would you prefer here? One option is to move those folders into the DO account. Everything then works normally and links stay hidden, but I can't script it, the folders need to go into the right places in your existing structure, so it would be manual work. The other option is to send people to the gofile download page for those files, which works right away but makes the folder link visible. We could also leave them undownloadable with a message saying the file is hosted elsewhere.
Moving them over looks like the best option to me, since it keeps both the
downloads and the privacy. You know how the account is organised though, so you'll see whether that's practical.
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenko Thanks for this explanation. Is it possible for you to get me a list of these gofile links so I can import them over?
Also is there a way to not use the quota if it's an external link?
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Hi Duong,
I've emailed you the list, 33 folders with the gofile link, the folder name, file count, size and links to the posts where each one is used. Around 108 GB in total.
On the quota, yes, and it's already done. The site now checks whether a file is in the DO account before doing anything. For external ones it no longer creates a link and no longer counts the download, so nothing gets deducted. People see a message saying the release is hosted elsewhere instead of the "not premium" page.
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenko in the future, is there a way to add to flag these in deck duty under PB links? But also some more easier way to migrate these over to the DO gofile account?
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78
Both are doable. For flagging, the PB Links tab in deck duty already logs every change to stream and hardsub links, so I can check each new gofile link against the DO account when it's saved and mark the external ones right there.
For migrating, I can add a button next to those entries that copies the folder into the DO account and updates the link on the site in one go. It lands in a holding folder, and you can move it wherever it belongs in gofile afterwards without breaking anything, since moving a folder inside the account keeps its link working.
Just keep in mind, the copies take up about 108GB of storage, and it's a one ime copy, so if a fansubber adds an episode to their folder later, it won't appear in ours.
Please let me know if you want me to build it.
