MySQL update from 5.7 to 8
complete
Amrayu78
could you please create a new ticket about updating the MySQL server? It is critically outdated (the current version is 5.7, and I want to update to 8).
I contacted support and they cannot help with this, as it is not part of their responsibilities.
I want to do the job and schedule the date with you. The update will take about 30 minutes. I can do it during off-peak hours in the PST time zone. Please let me know when I can start.
---
Let's do it either today or tomorrow around 4pm PST. A majority of our users are now based in Asia, so this won't disrupt things for them.

Amrayu78 Thank you! When would you prefer me to do this? At night according to your PST time zone?
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenko yup that’s fine

Amrayu78 I postponed this task for a while, as some difficulties arose and I decided not to rush into things. But I have some news.
I updated the server and made several improvements along the way. Here is the list:
- The server has been upgraded from version 5.7 to 8.0.42, enhancing overall stability, applying the latest security patches, and ensuring smoother long-term support. The site's database has also been adapted to meet the new standards.
I am monitoring the logs to make sure everything is working without errors.
Other Improvements:
- The Swiper Slider library is now updated to version 11.2.10.
- The gallery has been redesigned and now supports photo browsing within modals - based on your June 27 request (see screenshot). This functionality is available across all areas: media tab, episode screenshots, and Oshi Spot screenshots.

Max Romanchenko thank you! Shall we leave this ticket open while you monitor and report issues here?
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Glad to help! Yes, I think we can leave it open for a while. If there are no issues, we can then close this ticket.

Max Romanchenko we're getting some 500 errors on the site, and it doesn't load right now. Can you check?
I've rebooted it for now, but it shows as the server is up because I see processes running.
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Thank you, I am already communicating with Bluehost support about this issue.
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenko Rebooted, but nothing is working still. 500 error.
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Can you check it? The problem is solved. It was an SEO plugin that decided to overwrite the htacess rules when saving, oh my God...
We restored the previous version.
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenko What? I did do something to the SEO plugin yesterday, only updated the image for Facebook! Then I hit save, but that was yesterday. How can the plugin do this? CRAZY.
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 I decided to go into its settings and optimize it... remove some URL - Date archive, Author archive from the sitemap, and I also improved the main page's performance to 93%. But at some point, when saving the settings, the site froze and then started giving a 500 error.
I don't know if it was a coincidence or not... Then I quickly started looking for the cause and deleted the extra htacess backups and restored the htaccess file.
The site is working again. Thank God. I apologize for indirectly causing this. It's just that when I have a little time, I try to improve what we have.
For example, a new option appeared today.
The drama-otaku now automatically loads minified css and js assets. This improves the website's ranking, loading speed, and reduces the load on the server.
I added a button to regenerate these assets in the settings. You don't really need it, but just know that it's there :)
Please note that today's error is not related to MySQL or this setting.
Amrayu78
Max Romanchenkothank you for explaining! Maybe it’s related to the site map?
Max Romanchenko
Amrayu78 Yes, it's possible, but I'm not going to mess with its settings for now. All I can say is that the sitemap file does not physically exist at this URL:
It is generated on the fly by the AIOSEO plugin.
Perhaps we will replace it with something of our own, custom-made? This plugin has so many ads and premium features... Of course, we need to consider what it currently uses and what you really need. But that's a separate topic for discussion.
I would also like to tune the server and add support for object caching (like Redis or Memcached):
This is ideal for our case, where regular full page caching is not quite suitable, as there are many logged-in users who want to see fresh content.
If you don't mind, we can create a separate thread for this.

This task has also been completed. You can close
it when you have time. Thank you!
